#75a Bend it like Beckham(26jan2006)

‘For with fire and with His sword, the Lord will execute judgment upon all men..’
Isaiah 66:15

The truth is in eating the pudding. For the anglophiles lurking in our midst, David Beckman and his mates in the English Premier Soccer League is, besides the ubiquitous fish and chips, the next best thing to come out of the much diminished British Empire.

‘..their worship of Me is made up only of rules taught by men’
Isaiah 29:13

My daughter, Sarah is an avid soccer fan. Maybe she will eventually take up French so she could converse with the French man, Thierry Henry, her favorite Arsenal soccer player. Recently, by the grace of God, she had an added impetus to pursue her interest, given that she was the only student in her co-ed class who could name her Scottish history teacher’s home team, Glasgow Rangers.

‘..woe to those who go to great depths to hide their plans from the Lord…’
Isaiah 29:15

Like most, in the past, when desire was my ‘god,’ and I avoided God like most would avoid those god-forsaken places, the day starts with satisfying my own will or my willingness to pander to the will of others, who can help me achieve my will.

‘Man’s fate is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both; as one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath, man has no advantage over the animal.
Everything is meaningless’
Ecclesiastes 3:19

The self is indeed deceitful. Many of us strive, strife and scheme to achieve a comfortable but finite future, but spend little time nor regard to what comes after.

‘I issue a decree that in every part of my kingdom people must fear and reverence the
God of Daniel.
For He is the living God and He endures forever…’
Daniel 6:26

Is God real?? Is He truly of great omnipotence??

Like the fishes in the sea, we are often attracted to the bright lights of Lucifer’s world.
Distracted, we often neglect to consider the possibility of a loving and graceful God.

When was the last time you truly notice the soothing swaying of a light windswept tree and the beauty of its seemingly harmonious movement.

I am often reminded of this visual picture of a person, lying on the throes of death, finally looking out into the seemingly youthful exuberance of life, as epitomized by the swaying trees.

Van Gogh, at the sunset of his life, was reported to have painted the beautiful and exorbitantly priced tulips painting while looking out of his window(in the mental institute somewhere in the South of France).

The world seems bent on having a great time, yet, for that person, meeting his Maker is but a short step round the bend.

David Beckman, besides his taste for posh and spicy stuff, is famous for his ability to bend the ball round the defensive wall of defenders placed in front of him, into the net of the goalpost.

For many of us, our vision of God is often blurred or blocked by this deceitful wall that Satan weaves around us, do we continue to allow the devil to twirl us around his little finger, or do we truly stay bent on keeping God as the only focus of our lives.

‘But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid His face from you, and He will not hear’
Isaiah59:2

God Blesses
