By God’s Grace or by our work ???
1) By God’s Grace

‘For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast.’
Ephesians 2:8-9

‘That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.’
Romans10:9

2) Why then is good work still expected from a Christian??
a) we are the image of God

‘For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.’
Ephesians 2:10

b) this image of God will only be clear if…

‘But be ye doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving your ownselves
For if any be a hearer of the word , and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass.’
James 1: 22-23

c) it is a command of God

‘For we are labourers together with God; ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building
1 Corinthians 3: 9

d) good work glorifies God

‘Let your light so shine before men, that they see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heavaen.’
Mathews 5:16

e) doing God’s will ensure that we will see his blessings, do not go wayward and lose our given salvation through sin

‘Great in counsel, and mighty in work: for thine eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men: to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.’
Jeremiah 32:3

‘And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted sould;
then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon day
Isaiah 58:10

‘the merciful man does good for his own soul but he who is cruel troubles his own flesh’
