COM – passion : God revealed, not film review
(2 Mar 2004)
Emotions are stirred, the blood boils and before we know it, we might have the Crusades again.
Like many globally, having been a recent long suffering recipient of the chain emails to make a ‘stand’ for Christiandom, by watching the film ‘Passion’ and encouraging others to do the same, I feel less guilty about burdening all with the wonderful Word of God.
Do pray upon it and I am sure that if your heart is willing, God will give you the clarity of His commands. Visual pictures speak to the senses, but God speak to our heart.
1) What is God’s Will
“In him(ie Jesus), we have redemption through his blood,
the forgiveness of sins(ie all our sins),
in accordance with the riches of God’s grace,
that He lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding’
Ephesians 1: 7-8
We are not perfect. God has sent His only Son, Jesus, the ‘unblemished lamb’ to wash away our sins by his blood.
Who are we to question God in letting Jesus die on the Cross!!
2) All are guilty
All the people answered,
‘Let his blood be on us and our children’
Mathew 27:25
Often, men choose to focus on what supports a preconceived message.
The Word of God says :
‘all have fallen short of the glory of God’
When Christ was nailed on the cross, we and our sins are also nailed on it with him.
All our sins are forgiven if we repent and believe in Christ as the only source of our salvation.
3) All are forgiven
Jesus said, as he hung on the cross:
‘Father forgive them for they do not know what they are doing’
Luke 23:34
The blood of Christ was the seal of a covenant God has made between you and Him.
4) Rather than judge, you should trust and obey
‘Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire’
Hebrews 12:28
5) Obedience to God’s will include
‘keep on loving each other as brothers’
Hebrews 13:1
‘see that you do not refuse Him who speaks’
Hebrews 12:25
6) Consequences of disobedience
‘Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also heaven’
Hebrews 12:26
‘For you know that afterward, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected’
Hebrews 12:17
7) You are not alone
Christ died on the cross, but Christ was resurrected 3 days later and broke the hold that Satan has on all of us through sin and its consequence, death.
Christ will return again
But he has given us the Holy Spirit to guide us
‘Cast your burden on the Lord and He will sustain you
he will never let the righteous fall’
Psalm 55:22
8) Therefore be Holy,
‘Therefore, prepare your minds for action, be self-controlled;
set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.’
1 Peter :13
