#32a Don Quixote(16mar2005)

‘Who is the Lord, that I should obey His voice……..?’
I do not know the Lord………….’
Exodus 5:2

Man in his weakness, often harbours lingering thoughts of being a master of his own destiny.
Problem is, more often than not
- men are never sure of what they want
- even if they think that they are sure, once a milestone is reached, the next milestone comes along, hanging more like a millstone over their necks
- ‘futility, all is futile, an oft quoted but now forgotten expression of frustrated reality, by many who have achieved all the world has to offer, yet find no peace of heart nor certainty of immortality.

‘Be not wise in thine own eyes; Fear the Lord, and depart from evil’
Proverbs 3:7

To be child-like. For most of us strapping adults, it is a daunting tasks.
We rather fear everything than to fear God.
- We worry about getting rich materially, yet rarely stop to count our blessings
- We strive for power and pride, yet never recognizing that our light might just fizzle out tonight
- We work to look good, but never realizing that goodness of heart is the first rule to looking good.
- and many more worldly follies.

By golly, as Gomer Pyle of the golden era of American comedies of the 1960s, will say, “are we not foolish”

‘Trust in the Lord with all thine heart;
And lean not unto thine own understanding;
In all thy ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct thy paths’
Proverbs 3:5

We shall lead, and will not be led.
That is the dictum among many.

Fueled by greed and fear, many are lemming-like in their behaviour, blindly riding on the coat-tails of our devilish pride towards the treacherous cliffs.

God wants us to follow Him

Áccording as His divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness through the knowledge of Him that hat called us to glory and virtue…’
2 Peter 1:3

Will you will yourself to willingly focus on God only??

‘..having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust….’
2 Peter 1:4

‘Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip’
Hebrews 2;1

Will you be a willing servant of God??

‘…give diligence to make your calling and election sure, for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall’
2 Peter 1;10

Chilling it may sounds, but the bill for exercising your own free will, away from God is real

‘He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, but whoever walks wisely will be delivered’
Proverbs 28:26

So who is Don Quixote??
He was a hero of yonder. A Spanish afiociondo of the chivalry of the days of olde. The great Middle Ages, of knights and dragons and damsels in distress.

Living in the modern century(ie the 20th century), he goes round riding on his old faithful buggy, carrying a lance in search of dragons to slay and damsels to save.

To the people around him, here was a man living out a foolish dream.
Yet, with all of us, reality is if we do not awake from the Satanic illusions in our lives, and start focussing on God, then do understand that the term‘nightmare’ is not a nocturnal horse, but a life of pain and unease on earth, and eternal damnation in the fires of hell.

‘Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour’
1 Peter 5:8
