For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom’
1 Corinthians 1:22
What about us all today, clothed in the accoutrements of the technological advances of the 21st century??
What do we hanker after and who or what will we pander to, in-order to fulfill our lusts and desires??
‘A man’s steps are of the Lord. How then can a man understand his own way??’
Proverbs 20:24
Do we truly know what is good for our children??
My kids while not there yet, are on the cusps of the entering their teenage years, with its vast and alluring unexplored terra firma, yet if not correctly constrained, could see some pretty hard landings.
Too much parental restraint however, could lead to strained relationships with our wards.
‘….What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter..’
John 13:7
Mothers especially will empathize with and feel great affinity with this verse from John 13:7
Simon Peter, the disciple of Jesus Christ could not understand how a man of his(ie Jesus) stature, could bring himself to wash the feet of his disciples.
As parents, having flipped flopped through the often uneven pathways of life, we often make decisions that though based on our limited human understanding, are made with the best of intentions for our children, yet they will never understand at this point. But, will they like the disciples of Christ, eventually understand our love for them??
‘….Whither I go, ye cannot come ; so now I say to you. A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another as I have loved you….’
John 13:36
Love transcends all barriers. For me, my mum will always hold a special place in my heart. For she loved me as only a mother could, when I was a child.
Of course, the distractions of time and space that commensurate with our adult years, meant that maternal love will have less room to be expressed, not that it has dissipated.
Love tends to wash away the ugliness that sticks like moss on our hearts. It brings a shine to our lives that allow us to truly see God better.
...If a man love me, he will keep my words, and my Father will love him and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him’
John 14:23
Often, we trudged through the miasma of this sinful world, acting alone, thinking for our own interests and feeling thoroughly burdened.
God is love. In loving, we invite Him into our hearts and our lives and we will never walk alone ever again.
‘And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know’
John 14:4
As believers and followers of Christ, it matters not where we go, for God will lead. In fact, we do know where God will bring us, it just that we often find it hard to say no to the distractions that keep us from holding on to Him.
‘…walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work’
Colossians 1:10
Hansel and Gretel in the fairytale of old, placed crumbs of bread as they were led through the dark and foreboding forests by their wicked stepmother. The birds put paid to their route back home by literally gobbling up their route to salvation.
As parents, we want to leave a legacy for our children.
A legacy of love as led by and focused solely upon God, is that indelible set of footprints that will be forever imprinted in the hearts of our children, that the scavengers of Satan’s world can never snatch away.
‘..The voice of one crying in the wilderness. Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.’
Luke 3:4
