MLworship#22 A hair raising testimony

A hair-raising experience

‘But he who trusts in the Lord, mercy shall surround him.
Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, . … . ’
Psalm 32: 10-11

When the hair-dryer in the hands of my wife decided to add some spark of excitement to her life, for a moment, in the midst of the burning and sizzling of what was once a lifestyle aid but now a life threatening gadget, we are thankful that God is faithful.

The wife is alright now, the hair-dryer can be replaced, the kids learned about God’s grace, but why can’t God in all His omnipotence make life smoother and trouble free, so that we can all have a fear free ‘peaceful life?’

Some lessons I have learned :
- it is not for us to doubt God but to obey

‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts. Nor are your ways My ways, says the Lord’
Isaiah 55:8-9

‘the secret things belong to the Lord Our God, but the things revealed belong to us and our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.’
Deuteronomy 29:29

- rather than always questioning, be thankful

‘Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus’
1 Thessalonians 5:18

- why let fear grip us, when God reassures

‘…..for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him’
Mathew 6:8

‘for great is the Lord and most worthy of praise. He is to be feared above all gods.’
Psalm 96:4

Over the last 2 years, I count ourselves blessed that God has brought all of us into closer communion with Him as we spent time with Him, on His Word and in doing His work.

‘So shall My Word be that goes forth from My mouth, it shall not return to Me void …’
Isaiah 55:11

Yet while faith is about trusting and responding in obedience to an ‘unseen God’, we are walking with a very responsive Father.

‘only fear the Lord, and serve Him in truth with all your heart, for consider what great things He has done for you’
1 Samuel 12:24

When I reflect on the events of the past few days, troubles were always lurking round the corner, yet, God’s hands were even more real and reassuring.
- today, the hair-dryer self-immolated, the whole family had a scare, it could have been but did not turn out worst
- yesterday, on my return back from vacation, I received a less than friendly letter arising from some miscommunication on both sides. It has not but I believe will be resolved. But thank God for His grace in letting it happen after and not before the vacation.
- During my vacation, we had a client who could have closed because of dissatisfaction over our non desire to grant an unacceptable exception to his request. In letting God’s will work, I receive peace.

We live in this sinful world, a world ruled by Satan, troubles will be aplenty. Only by giving up what Adam has takened up in disobedience, by letting our will be God’s will, will our paths be made straight, for God will reside in those who believe.

As you walk with God, as you seek God with all your heart, you will experience God’s reassuring presence in the lives of your loved ones and yourself.

‘I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go. I will guide you with My eye.’
Psalm 32:8

‘therefore submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you.’
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.’
James 4:7-8
