For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.’
Romans 10:13
My son, who was being interviewed by me for his recent misdemeanors, gave me an interesting justification for his behaviour. He told me that he had two voices talking to him. One clearly, a good angel telling him not to do the wrong thing, the other, dear old Lucifer goading him on. Of course, just like our dear ancestor, Adam, he caved him to his sinful needs.
‘And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave of the tree, and I did eat.’
Genesis 3:12
‘..And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat’
Genesis 3:13
It is indeed in line with our lineage (ie the human race and not just the Ang family) to blame everyone and everything except ourselves. And if nothing else works, to blame God who ultimately is in-charge, isn’t He??
God knows our inherent weakness. In the old relationship, from Moses’ day, despite witnessing God’s awesomeness in close quarters, the Israelites continued to falter right after receiving His grace.
With Jesus Christ, God has placed us all in a new covenant. One based not on a legalistic but rather on a relationship of faithful following, as God leads.
‘......but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent’
Luke 16:20
Many professed their willingness to follow Christ, if he proves himself. Yet, God has shown His presence and grace many times in our lives, but many are still dithering.
‘....they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead’
Luke 16:21
‘The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is long suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance’
2 Peter 3:9
As a parent, it hurts us to see our children do things that deviate from what we understand to be good for them. Yet, we as imperfect humans, will forgive and forget their indiscretions and continue to forge ahead in guiding and providing for them.
God is perfect. Our love for our children pales in the light of His Grace and love towards us all.
But what is your response??
‘But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up..’
2 Peter 3:10
‘Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be .....’
2 Peter 3;11
Epilogue
God is indeed graceful. A few days after this rather heart-rending episode in the continued growth of our children. my son, one night, inexplicably had this emotional lump in his heart,. He struggled to sleep and near the late hours of the night, the dam broke and he bawled his heart out .God, I believed gave him his release. Reminds me of the experiences of many of us, who after years of disappointing God, begin to understand the follies of our ways, and in the midst of this great struggle within our sinful self, somehow, God lifts the blindness that binds our hearts and we walk across to Him.
‘And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil..’
