#70 Riding a bicycle (5 dec 2005)

Paul thou art beside thyself, much learning doth made thee mad’
Acts 26:24

A life aligned with God’s will can be a much maligned one in this present world that we live in.

Some give up status and the comforts of life, to work amongst the stateless in the cesspools of deprivation.
Others give with great compassion their time, financials and other economically valued resources, in return for not even a mite of gratitude from the recipients.
A few put family values before corporate status, agape love before sinful lusts, genuine humility before prideful haughtiness.

In a nutshell, what God wills, often the world would otherwise.

‘Our God ……….is able to deliver us………………….
But if not………………….’
Daniel 3:18

Faith would be easier, and Christianity more palatable if only God will make us strong, make us rich, make us smart, make us well-liked and well-cherished, in other-words, equipped us to deal with the world as the world so desires.

In reality, a life of faithful following, in those moments of weakness, seem to be anything than a bed of roses.

Why bother??

‘Blessed be the God………….who sent His Angel and delivered His servants who trusted in Him’
Daniel 3:28

Truly, need we let the world and all its cares bother us???

‘…and yielded their bodies, lest they should not give nor worship any god except their own God’
Daniel 3:28

God has and will always deliver the faithful

‘The Lord will deliver us, hath any of the gods of the nations delivered …..??’
Isaiah 36:18

His Words keep us faithful

‘…the Word of God, which effectively worketh also in you that believe’
1 Thessalonians 2;13

He works in us, as we obey His Words and do His works

‘If ye abide in Me and My Words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will and it shall be done unto you’
John 15:7

‘…because ye have known Him that is from the beginning…..and the Word of God abideth in you and ye have overcome the wicked one’
1 John 2:14

Oh brother, why is God nowhere in sight??

‘Behold the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save,
Neither His ear heavy, that it cannot hear
But your iniquities have separated between you and your God
And your sins have hid His face from you, that He will not hear’
Isaiah 59:1-2

What has all these got to do with riding a bicycle??

Like most, our first mobile contraption tend to be a tricyle, which for most, then is a natural progession to a 4-wheeler bicycle and for some, it stops there.
My son is now happily enjoying his new found freedom, riding on a two-wheeler. Took him a few days to learn to let the momentum of his riding balance him on just two wheels instead of relying on the presence of the two extra wheels.

God is ever present in our lives. Yet, for many, they are still looking for a physical manifestation or spiritual high, in line with their expectations, before they will trust and follow God.
God does provide, yet often, as the joy of that spiritual experience or even material fulfillment fade with time, many stop following.

My son, in his new found freedom, still took quite a few tumbles. Thankfully, while there were hard rocks, by God’s grace, he was often sufficiently cushioned by the many, by now squashed flora strewned along his route.

Of course, his initial need for elbow guards, knee guards, helmet and whatever is deemed necessary to break his fall, is increasingly passé.

Yet, most of us are like the novice cyclist. Often, in riding through this evil strewned world, we try to assuage our fears with the means of this world, be it status, wealth, health, stealth or a menagerie of friends and fiends.

Like riding a bike.,to be able to ride well, we must learn to let go of our need to balance and let the momentum of our pedaling carry us.

With God, we must learn to let go of our grip on the clutches of societal and personal understandings and instead, learn to seek God, learn to acknowledge God in all our ways and learn to let God lead and He will make our paths straight.

God Blesses
