Road to Heaven
‘Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbour…’
Zechariah 8:16
Some of us might recall the very old but popular travelogue based series of movies “Road to Hong Kong, Singapore, Rangoon and so on, starring Bob Hope, Bing Cosby and Dorothy Lamour.
Beyond Hollywood, Bollywood and the world, Christians believe that
- there is only one true road to Heaven, the straight and narrow path.
Are we so dazzled by the things of this world that
Many find it hard to want to let go and believe in the awesome God.
‘eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him
1 Corinthians 2:9
What about those who brand themselves ‘Christians?’
Has your experience with God stalled and never moved past the rudimentary stages of your walk.
‘I have fed you with milk and not with meat; for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able’
1 Corinthians 3:2
How does one move from mere believer to a true disciple of Christ?
- It has to come from God.
‘But God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit;…..’
‘Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God’
1 Corinthians 2:10-11
‘Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of Heaven, but to them it is not given’
Matthew 13:11
- You have to start by believing in God
‘Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord and whose hope the Lord is’
Jeremiah 17:7
- You continue by trusting only in God, and no one else including yourself
‘The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked, who can know it?’
Jeremiah 17:9
‘For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in
him’
1 Corinthians 2:11
- You have to respond in obedience as the Holy Spirit leads
‘As the Lord liveth, what the Lord saith unto me, that will I speak’
1 King 22:14
- God wants the ‘seeing’ to be the light to those still enveloped by the darkness of
this sinful world
‘…..and when you are converted, strengthen thy brethren’
Luke 22:31-32
- But it is not on your own strength, but to and through God
‘Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak’
Mark 14:38
- And always focus on God
‘Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things’
Luke 10:41
- And God will guide, lead and correct you
‘The rod of reproof gives wisdom but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to
shame’
Proverbs 29:15
