No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and love the other.....
Ye cannot serve God and mammon...'
Matthew 6:24
When was the last time anticipatory fear gripped you as you ponder upon the likely aftermath of facing up to a difficult situation. Like a drowning man, you desperately cling on to the hope that things will turn out right, though reality is, can a straw hold up a 130 pound gorilla of a problem.
And like the show "Gorilla in the mist," there are gorillas aplenty in all our lives.
God reminded me of His Words in Matthew 6:24 as I grappled momentarily with the need to address an issue that clearly will be detrimental to short term well being, if I am honest about it.
Bleak as the situation seem, as a follower of Jesus Christ, as one who fears the Lord our God, there is no longer any room for white lies nor grey areas, for black is black and white is white.
Matthew 6:24 is familiar to all of us. But it is usually read as a curtain raiser to the rest of Matthew 6, where many of us wobbly believers lean upon, and for some, chant incessantly, to psyche ourselves to deal with our fears of material deprivation in the secular world.
This morning, God used Matthew 6:24 to speak to me in a different way.
Most of us tend to have a leg in each boat. Unless you are in the circus, to finely balance each leg straddled between two rollicky sampans(Malay word for small wooden boat) is no easy task, even in the gentle swaying waters of an inlet.
Yet, today, like most times of our life, we often find ourselves repeating this two legged act.
We fear God, but often we fear our circumstances more, be it, whoever holds the key to our present short term needs, eg our bosses, our clients
'O ye of little faith?'
What shall we eat?....
....for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things
Matthew 6:30-32
'But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and is righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you....'
Matthew 6:33
'Deal bountifully with thy servant, that I may live. And keep Thy Word.'
Psalm 119:17
Unlike human relationships which is complex, our relationship with God is simple. Trust Him and let Him take charge.
God Blesses
