#23a When our Lord Jesus Christ returns(3jan2005)

When Jesus returns…
(‘3Jan05)

1. For all, our time on Earth is to

‘….Fear God, and keep His commandments; for this is the whole duty of man’
Ecclesiastes 12:13

2. To know God, start now and not when we are older

‘Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh……’
Ecclesiastes 12:1

3. For Jesus might be yet to come, but yet we might have to go earlier

‘….shall the dust return to the earth as it was; and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it’
Ecclesiastes 12:7

4. Jesus will return, for He has promised

‘….unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?’
3 Peter 3:12

5. But when we do not know, just like our life is but a breath away

‘But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night…’
3 Peter 3:10

‘But the end of all things is at hand, be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer’
1 Peter 4:7

6. What we do know and should do is

‘…..that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ,….’
1 Corinthians 1:8

7. Rather than question who God is, where is God and His ways

‘What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter’
John 13:7

‘….The judgements of the Lord are true and righteous altogether’
Psalm 19:9

8. Acknowledge our own sinfulness and let God work in you

‘Who can understand his errors?’
Cleanse thou me from secret faults.
Keep back thy servant also from presumptious sins’
Psalm 19:12

9. For it is not that God is imperfect, but God is faithful and patient with us, the imperfect man’

‘The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance’
2 Peter 3:9

10. Be forewarned

‘For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: How much worse will it be when I send against Jerusalem my four dreadful judgements - sword and famine and wild beasts and plague’
Ezekiel 14:21

10. Be forwarned specifically

‘Son of man, if a country sins against me by being unfaithful…..
even if these three men – Noah, Daniel and Job were in it,
they could save only themselves by their righteousness…
…they could not save their own sons or daughters…’
Ezekiel 14:12-20

11. Rather than doubt, question and disobey, do believe and ask God

‘Teach me thy way, O Lord, I will walk in thy truth, unite my heart to fear thy name’
Psalm 86:11

‘…yield yourselves unto God , as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God,..’
Romans 6:13-14
