#8 Who is God ?? (4sep2004)

Who is GOD???

‘I am the Lord Your God’
Leviticus 23:43

‘….who is so great a God as our God?
Psalm 77:13

‘Thou art the God that does wonders’
Psalm 77:13

Yet, many
- believe but forgets
- sees but do not believe
- believe in other ‘gods’ other than God our Father

Why???

- is God truly beyond our ability to fathom?

‘…..thy footsteps are not known’

‘So you do not know the works of God who makes everything’
Ecclesiastes 11:5

- if God is that awesome, let Him show himself, let Him prove Himself

‘a wicked and adulterous generation seek after a sign and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah’
Mathew 16:4

- Even with signs, can we trust Him???

‘For all this they sinned still and believed not in His wondrous works’
Psalm 78:32

Or is the real reason for our denial of God

‘because they believed not in God, and trusted not in His salvation’
Psalm 78:22

Because in disbelieving,

Are we like the ancient Greeks, always looking for ‘gods’ who would enable us to be one-up from others.

We often choose a ‘god’ that satisfies our innate selfish needs, often clothed in ideal human concepts.

We measure and often change our chosen ‘god or gods’ by our fickle benchmarks.

With Our Heavenly Father,

- our only need and role is to worship and glorify God

‘That we should be to the praise of His glory who first trusted in Christ’
Ephesians 1:12

- let go and let God lead you.

‘Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men’
1 Corinthians 1:25

Since Adam chose to choose the right to decide,

- men has always strive to build their own destiny on their own strength.
- Even when men recognize the reality of a finite life, on their own understanding, they have chosen to create or follow ‘gods’ of their own acceptable preferences.

God understand our foolishness.

‘For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom….’
1 Corinthians 1:22

‘But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise,
and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound things which are mighty.’
1 Corinthians 1:27

Much as it is in our sinful nature

- to want to ask ‘Who is God??’ before we believe

What should truly matter

- is to learn to let go, and respond as ‘the physically invisible’ God but ever present God prompts and lead us

‘So He feed them according to the integrity of His heart and guide them by the skillfulness of His hands’
Psalm 78:72

Sadly,

we only come to this ‘silly stage’ when pain and death compel us to reflect on the fleetiness of life

‘…the day of death better than the day of one’s birth’
Ecclesiastes 7:1

‘sorrow is better than laughter for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better’
Ecclesiastes 7:3

Do understand and remember, God chose us, not we Him

‘According as He has chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world’
Ephesians 1:4

‘And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose.’
Romans 7:28

Rather than dwell over ‘Who is God?’

‘As God has said, I will dwell in them and walk in them and I will be their God and they shall be My people’
2 Corinthians 6:16

Let go, repent, trust and obey

‘And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you are called in one body and be you thankful’
Colossians 3:15
